We at Doran Bay Ships pride ourselves at offering the world's most comprehensive collection of high quality historic model ships. We strive to provide our customers with personalized and professional service. We've scoured the world to find craftsmen that are able to build, to our exacting specifications, what we believe to be historic model ships of unparalleled quality and value for money.

We recognize that everyone has a budget and depending on where the model will be displayed, not every application requires the same level of detail or 'fit and finish'. Our collection is therefore conveniently categorized into 3 different qualities.

Our Silver Series ships are very impressive and will enhance any home or office. We normally recommend this quality if the model is to be displayed on a wall or mantel at eye level where the ship's beautiful hull lines and rigging will be the focus. While our Silver series ships do not have the same level of deck detail or intricate carving as found on our other series of ships, they truly offer very good craftsmanship and value.

Our Gold Series ships offer more detailed and superior quality deck features, as well as teak wood or metal casted carvings. This series offers a finer overall level of 'fit and finish' than our Silver series. We recommend these models where the deck, hardware, rigging details and carvings will be examined at close quarters.

Our Platinum Series ships are true 'Class A' museum quality which meet or exceed the most discriminating demands of museum curators and private collectors. Our Platinum series models offer exquisite wooden carvings in only the most finest exotic hardwoods or bone, individual copper plates laid on the hulls (if found on the original ship), copper/brass nails, uncompromising intricate deck and rigging detail, extensive use of ebony and other exotic woods…in short, simply the finest quality historic ship models money can buy. Our Platinum models are of a quality normally reserved to the finest collections of maritime museums. Purchasers of Platinum models may have options on alternative exotic woods to used in different locations, brass vs. bronze cannons, how sails and rigging are to be set, etc. Participating in having one of these models built is an experience of a life-time!

Visit our Gallery to see over a hundred of our models in various qualities and scales. We are continually researching plans for new ships to add to our already exclusive collection. If you do not see the ship you are looking for, send us the name, yearof construction and country where built, and we will check to see if we have the plans. Better still, send us the plans and we will give you a quote on building your custom model to the size and quality needed. Our ships are true works of art, which if properly protected in one of our teak display cases with brass corners, they will provide a lifetime of enjoyment and become a family heirloom.

All of our ships are built individually from scratch (not kits), age-old 'plank on frame or bulkhead' construction techniques. The majority of our hulls are constructed using kiln-dried teak, which very rarely will warp, check or crack in even the most humid or dry climatic conditions. Depending on the quality of the model chosen, we frequently utilize a number of other exotic woods, including ebony, natt, and palissandre, as well as contrasting beech, oak and pine. Many of our ships are covered with ornate carvings using exotic hardwoods woods. Some of our highest quality ships, particularly those with dark/black hulls, may be accentuated with bone carvings, and/or cast metal carvings to replicate the gold leaf found on many ancient flagships and galleons. You will also note that certain

Our model ships are individual works of art, individually crafted from exotic and contrasting hardwoods, including teak, beech, oak, ebony, palissandre, and natt.
